A city worth exploring slowly

Bielsko-Biała offers a day beyond mountain trails. Historic streets, townhouse façades and small squares invite close attention. Pause in the Market Square before moving on.

Extend the walk to both sides of the Biała river to discover more than a single Old Town route.

From the studio to OKO

The city is associated with the Animated Film Studio and characters including Bolek and Lolek and Reksio. The OKO Fairy Tale and Animation Centre operates at Cieszyńska 24.

Its interactive exhibition explores animation through participation. Check tickets and suitability separately. Admission does not mean unrestricted access to the studio’s working production spaces.

Characters in the streets

The Bajkowe Bielsko-Biała trail leads to sculptures of animated characters. Looking for Reksio or Bolek and Lolek connects adults’ memories with children’s curiosity.

The figures are spread across the centre. Use a current map to link the Old Town with further stops rather than expecting every sculpture at Market Square.

Animation and architecture offer two ways of looking closely. Film draws attention to movement and a character’s personality; buildings reveal composition, material and detail. Both begin with a creator’s imagination. Alternate the search for familiar figures with looking up at façades, allowing everyone in the group to choose a favourite stop. You do not need specialist knowledge of art history to enjoy the route, just curiosity and time to notice what lies beyond the next photograph.

Look up at the frogs

The Art Nouveau House Under the Frogs stands at the corner of Targowa Street and Wojska Polskiego Square. Its frog figures give the building its name. Look above the shopfronts to appreciate its playful details.

View it from public space; do not assume interior access. Find more ideas in our Guide and return after your outing to VISLA Apartments in Wisła.
